Winter lodging when RV sites closed
We are planning to drive to OK from OH to see my brother who is ailing. Almost all RV parks are closed for the winter. Where is the safest place to park. Many stay in Walmart lots, and we have seen some in motel parking lots
Do some motel chains have policies covering these situations?

There’s plenty of OH campgrounds that are open year round. We stayed at some this past winter and will be doing the same in a few weeks on our way to Nappanee. Here’s an Allstays app screenshot of OH year round campgrounds.
Another option is Boondockers Welcome where folks with available room will make their driveway available. We parked our 45’ MH at a house just north of Columbus back in March.

Oklahoma is a big state. Where are you looking to stay?
Have you planned out a route to get there?

Not to start a Wal*Mart argument but why not Wal*Mart?
We've done this RV thing for a long time and using the https://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations.htm app works great - just give them a call to be sure and roll on down the road.
If after a couple nights you need a park work on locating one to dump and refill, as they are out there just takes a little more effort to locate.
Wal*Mart has cameras and Security, so it has been our go to when going from "A to B" just makes life easy.

If enroute and for a night at a time we do the WalMart and Rest Centers and Truck Centers in that order of priority. We make sure we buy lots of stuff at WalMart the next morning as a thank you. And we never leave trash. And we park way out of the way of the rest of their customers.
I found a 12 month campground when I first moved to Michigan. Was pretty much the only camper there. I assume it's easier to find in Oklahoma, being warmer.

While travelling in the winter to Arizona from Ontario we go Casino to Casino.
We use Casino Camper. Good security, large lots.
Several have power but no water in the winter.

We travel from Ontario Canada to Florida and on our first night traveling we stay in a hotel. Most Laquinta's have large parking lots that truckers use when they want a good night's sleep. That is where we stay on our way south, and Google the street address and it will show a view of the area. Most have no problem with offering a room and you parking an RV on their property. Just ask about parking if in doubt.

Not all KOAs are open year round. However, there are 7 KOAs listed as open all year in Oklahoma.
Best of luck and safe travels!

I assume you want to stay near where your brother is staying or hospitalized. Two years ago on our first trip in our full timing adventure DW and I drove from CO to OKC in November to pick up my sister and take her to Ohio to see my brother who was terminally ill. When we arrived at my sister's house our visit began by taking her to the hospital where she stayed for the next two months.
We stayed with her all that time to take care of her needs with the medical staff, her house, her laundry and her dogs. We hated even entering her house because she had been a life long heavy smoker so we had to stay nearby in our coach.
We couldn't find any campgrounds near the hospital in southeast OKC but we found a Walmart along a freeway that had a special area for truck parking with 4 or 5 long pull through lanes like a rest area. We alternated staying there and at Thunderbird State Park a few miles east of Norman. The state park was a much longer drive to the hospital but gave us an opportunity to get access to electricity, water and a dump station.
We were complete noobs and never thought to ask the hospital for permission to stay in their parking lot. We have since found our hospital and medical office complex in CO was fine letting us stay in their parking lot for two weeks while I had wrist surgery and couldn't drive until my stitches and large bandage were removed.

If you pass through or near Middletown, OH you can overnight in the driveway. We can offer 50amp and water.
