More advice needed...
We need to stay in the Eastern PA area through mid-December this winter before we head to Palm Springs and Arizona. We full-time and can't winterize. I checked weather service and temps don't look too bad with worst case nightime low temps down to mid-teens (rarely) and normally low temps in the high 20's - low 30's. We have an Essex and will have the basement heater set at 40 degrees or so. As a backup I will keep a 100W mechanics light on in the water bay to add a little heat. I also have a temperature alarm for cold temps. I am still a little worried about the heat going off if we are away for an overnight trip. The Manibloc looks like one of the first areas where freezing could occur. I will add a little fiberglass insulation over the bottom on the bay (covering the dump opening plastic ring).
Any suggestions on the plumbing bay or other "watch-out" areas?

I see no problem with cold in Dec if you keep heater on and tank pads on if you have them. I do not have tank pads just the furnace with a blower for holding tanks in hose from heater. Have been in three day snow storm and nothing internally ever freezed up. if you don't have a blower in basement place a fan near heater to cycle heat thru basement and have your heat on thru out your living quarters. In fact water from fresh water tank would be warm coming out of faucet.

We spent last winter in NYC, fulltime in our Travel Trailer.

Keeping the heat on, was enough for us. Didn't have any problem.

We did use alot of electric heat, but when we knew it was going to drop below 20 degrees, we used the LP furnace.

I know many people who simply used electric lights to keep the water bay warm. Just be smart and watch the weather...

Thanks for those quick replies. Good to hear others have survived without issue.

You should be OK with what you described. Last year we didn't leave the Allentown area 'til after Thanksgiving. Twice it went down to 15 degrees at night and all we did was run the gas furnace. We were living in it at the time and had now freeze problems. Uses a lot of propane, but keeps things warm enough.
