Winterizing Battery Weirdness

I took the coach batteries out of my 2015 Bay Star per the recommendation of Newmar. When I went to drive to the storage facility, the steps wouldn't retract, even when I started the motor.

I had assumed the steps were on the chassis battery, because they still work when the battery switch was turned off. Oh well. I hooked a portable jump starter to the correct battery cable and the steps went in so I could drive to storage.

Then when I got to storage, with no batteries or jump starter attached, I opened the door and the steps went out. But they won't go back in.

So apparently the power for the motor comes from the chassis battery, but the circuit to reverse the polarity is hooked to the coach battery. Does that make any sense?

When it comes to coach wiring, sometimes we are left scratching our heads. If one could talk to the EE who designed the circuits, I'm sure the explanation would make sense. Lacking that conversation, just be thankful you discovered how it works. Make a note of it (you will forget).
