Wiper coverage

The drivers side wiper is effective about to my left eye, ie 3/4 of the sweep is clearing water. How effective are your wipers? Is this normal or something that needs correcting? In my case VTDP but curious of anyone else.

Before we had the recall done on our MADP, we only had about 25% wiper coverage on the driver's side and about 50% on the passenger side. After the recall, we are pretty close to 100% on both sides, based on our limited use thus far. As the rainy season approaches, we'll have a better test.

I only get about 50% coverage with the driver side wiper and perhaps 80% on the passenger side. When I took it back to the dealer for some warranty work and asked them to take a look, they simply changed out the wiper blades which they (over)charged me for. Of course it didn't do a thing to resolve my issue. Really like to know if there is a fix for this.

I changed my blades at the 1 year point just to see as I do carry spares. While it the wiping improved the coverage stayed the same.

Mine covered the correct amount on both sides both before and after the recall. Not sure if they can adjust the travel or not.

wiper

Mine covers about the same as Neal's Dealer replaced the blade under warranty. No change. Don't know if it is a wiper issue or the shape of the windshield. On my 3rd windshield. No change.

Neal,

If you mean that your wiper blades are skipping over some areas of the glass, we had this with our SOB motor home. Evidently, the spring on the wiper arm was defective or weak. After receiving and installing a new wiper arm, problem solved.

Newmar's wiper assembly is made by Diesel Equipment Company. Their phone number is *(336) 370-0812‬. They can assist with any wiper problems and I suspect their parts cost is less than Newmar.

Wow, you should have them just use some type of quick release clips the next time they change it out. I am guessing you keep getting hit by debris while traveling down our wonderful roadways?

Not exactly what you mean by coverage. I'm assuming you DON'T mean the blade skips areas. Are you referring to vertical or horizontal coverage?

On mine (with pantograph), the vertical coverage can be changed slightly with a longer blade. My blades are 28" but I could easily use 30" and maybe 32".

The total horizontal coverage cannot be changed. However, the end points (where the blade parks and where the sweep ends at the sides) can be changed but they change together. This is done by skipping a tooth ... relocating the arm on the drive hub. This also requires adjusting the pantograph to make the blade vertical. That adjustment is a locking screw on the pantograph arm.

My blades are adjusted to stop about 2 inches from the center and 2 inches from the edges of the glass. My wipers sweep in opposite directions (from the center outward). I'm 6'3" and the sweep is high enough that I look thru a cleared windshield.

My wipers may be different since the RV is a 2005.

Coverage in that the driver's side wiper blade travels to the left edge yet stops removing water the last 25%. It's clearing water up to about my left eye and left of that is not being removed.

Ahah! What is the blade doing in the last 25% Any contact at all or center of blade but not ends?

You may be able to correct the contact with a different type of blade.

This is the point the windshield makes it's significant curve so I think it's just not designed properly (guess). There seems to be enough pressure, the blade is good. It may also be wind force at that point that's affecting it, maybe getting in between the blade and the glass. Maybe some aerodynamic piece could help keep it against the glass better.

So I won't hijack the thread, I sent you a PM with the tales of the windshield.
