2004 Western RV Alpine Avalanche

Is the Avalanche a special option, in addition to the normal Alpine equipment? Does it have the side cooling as the Alpines have?

The Avalanche was the entry level Alpine coach.

It was a little over a 1-year attempt at building a lower-cost coach to attract more buyers. While the coaches are OK, the short model run and obvious cost-cutting measures make it a less desirable coach in the aftermarket..... I LOVE Alpines but I wouldn't buy one

We owned an Avalanche and it was one of the last ones bought back by Western RV as a lemon. The first time out in the rain the roof leaked, later found out that they forgot to properly attach it. That was the start of numerous problems that were never completely resolved! The only thing I can say good is it drove like our current Apex. My understanding is that all but a few Avalanches were bought back as lemons.

Rear Radiator, rubber roof iirc instead of fiberglass, air brakes & air leveling

The one we owned did indeed have air brakes, rear radiator, power gear electric slides and jacks but had a fiberglass roof albeit never sealed to the walls!

After learning what an Avalanche was I passed on it. Looking at an 04 40FDTS Alpine now with 53k miles. Looks good and the price seems fair. Needs new tires and a service but otherwise has what we're looking for.
