2009 Alpine alternator

Anyone out there with a 2007 -2009 alpine that have or has had this problem? Batteries 8 coach 2 house new. fully charged driving at 65 mph i want to run my generator to cool the back of the coach down. The generator will run for 15 seconds and the turn off. A fault 29 comes up on the inverter screen and says over voltage. Called inverter company did trouble shooting they said not their problem. Disconnected the auto gen start same problem. Turn off the coach sit 5 minutes gen works fine. start coach gen turns off. Maybe a over charging alternator? Going to replace this week. hopefully a 8600314 delco 200 amp pad mount. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks mike 805 712 3227

Actually is code 27

It's caused by the alternator on the main engine charging the batteries, and the genset also trying to charge the batteries.

Here is how to overcome it:
Pull the coach over if you are driving, otherwise you are parked with the ISL running, start the genset, then as soon as it try's to pickup the coach load, cancel the charging part of the genset operation. I can do mine in the dashboard Silverleaf system, you may have another way you have to do it. Most likely the inverter panel, just cancel battery charging, then it will allow the back/front a/c's to run just fine.

The main engine through the alternator will charge the batteries while driving down the road.

Assuming you have a Xantrex RS2000 inverter--Renipladlo is spot-on with the work-around. Since neither Xantex nor Onan will acknowledge the problem--there is no firm-ware updates or menu configurations that will prevent the shut-down from happening.

OS and All-It happens on mine with a Magnum Inverter as well. It's got to be either something in the Onan programing or the Silverleaf. I don't personally believe it's in the Silverleaf because it happens with almost all of our alpines, regardless of the model of inverter. All I think have the onan genset at some output level.

Renipladlo--very interesting, 50/50 shot it was the Onan vs the Xantrex [I don't have the built-in SL]. Guess I thought it was more likely the Xantrex but based on your experience, Onan may well be the common thread.....

Well, Talked to onan and xantrex both very nice. onan scott gen cuts out at 19 volts it is a code 29 on the gen competition with chargers. turn off xantrex charger when driving alternator will charge both house and chassis through #19 on coach computer.. new xantrex inverter has an internal chargerr that is smarter!! In the mean time turn off charger while running coach and onan will work fine. Thanks again mike
