2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk towing
Hi all,
Any feedback I can receive about front tire shimmy towing the trailhawk? I have had different opinions: there is no problem and there is a service bulletin to prevent front wheel shimmy costing $500 to implement by the dealer.

...have heard the problem with some newer vehicles with electro-magnetic power steer [vs hydraulic pump] is that the 12v power circuit needs to remain energized while towing. Not sure what the $500 dealer solution is but may involve by-passing ignition to keep power steering energize....

I think you will find multiple posts discussing the jeep wobble. I also recollect folks having the wiring harness upgrade to power the power steering done for free from their dealer

Curious--assume the Trailhawk has a true neutral position for the transfer case and is therefore towable?????

Yes, the Trailhawk in an upgraded trim level of the Grand Cherokee and is flat towable. Interesting thread to follow as a Grand Cherokee is at the top of the list for a toad upgrade.

I have a 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk that I tow 4-down. Very easy
as for the whobble...I have never experienced it in over 12,000 miles of towing, but my dealer did install the flat-tow wiring harness, when I bought the vehicle. Installed for free and it was classified as a recall.
It is simple a fuse in the engine compartment that you put in, when you're ready to tow and a switch in the console to activate the system.
One word of caution....if you leave the fuse in for more than a day or two, it will deplete your Jeep battery. We've had this happen, when we were just stopping for overnights and didn't unhook the Jeep. Dead battery plays hell with all the computers in the Jeep, so don't let that happen!

I tow a 2014 Cherokee Lattitude and it "wobbled" about 3 - times. I received a "Notice" NOT a "Recall" from FCA about an option that prevents the "Wobble". I paid between $250 - $300 to have the upgrade installed. It operates as Dr Q previously described. Be aware that the console display MUST have timed out BEFORE flipping the switch on. Otherwise, you'll get the infamous Service Engine light as well as other possible lights on the dash. They will clear after 2 - 3 key engine start cycles.

The following discussion might be of interest.

Bottom line, yes you need to have the Mopar flat tow wiring kit installed.

sdcyclist, To clarify, which vehicle is experiencing the tire shimmy? Jeep? Coach? Both? Most responses have assumed an issue with the Jeep, while the "death wobble" assumes problems with the coach.
Thanks.

...."death wobble" is trademark for Jeep, held by FCM--don't think anyone else can use the term [smile].......

I missed the acronym class so am unfamiliar with FCM. Prepared to feel foolish once informed. What I read on the death wobble thread seemed to discuss a front end wobble on the coach at roughly 45mph regardless of what vehicle was being towed. Maybe I missed something.
Ultimately trying to clarify which of sdcyclist's vehicles is experiencing the "front tire shimmy". I'd put $5 on the Jeep.

First of all you would win your bet. This thread, and many others floating around, is referring to shimming or violent shaking of the Jeep Cherokee KL models (2014 and newer) while being towed without the Mopar flat tow harness.
I believe the previous poster meant to use the acronym FCA, which stands for Fiat Chrysler America.
