A&E Awning Info
Hi I've looked at some videos on A and E awnings, have turned knobs released leaves and used the rod to move the aluminum switch Up on the right side but can't find out how to release or start the unrolling from above.
Thanks, Mark

After you've done all the stuff you mentioned, there should be a nylon pull strap (its usually in the middle) that you pull.
This strap is rolled up in the awning and you'll need a long handle hook tool to reach the strap and start pulling it. There should be a loop in the strap, so insert the hook end of the long tool to pull it.
If the strap is missing or broken off, you can manually "unwind" the awning to open it. You'll need a ladder to reach the roll and just start unwinding it by hand.

Pull it out a ways. The black nylon loop may be tucked up inside the awning.

Good point - ALSO - Look carefully to see if its just tucked up behind the awning. Sometimes when its windy, I'll take my ladder out and tuck that strap up inside the awning so it doesn't flop around and bang against the side of the MH.

Move the lever on the right to the 'roll down' setting.
Then grab one of the arms reaching up as high as you can, and give it a good tug. It should start to unroll, and hopefully the strap that's being referred to will show, because that's a LOT easier to use.
It's also quite helpful to have someone pulling on the other arm at the same time, especially if you're a shorter guy like me and your 'as high as you can' isn't really high enough to get on the proper side of the "it's easier above here" point on the awning arm.

Mitimet, please be careful of the replies you get from other than Alpine owners, many other coaches do not have the same accessories that an Alpine does.
I may be wrong since you have a 2000 coach and I have a 2005, but as far as I know all Alpines have had electrically operated A&E awnings. We will need a 2000 owner to confirm this, have you located the extend/retract switch, on a front door coach it is normally located just inside the door on the left hand side. When you push the switch do you hear the motor attempt to start? If not look in the basement compartment directly behind the front door, on the ceiling, you should see a black box, check to see if you can operate the awning from there, does it even have power?

I was thinking the same thing, but also have a 2005.
If it we're electric he wouldn't have any knobs or levers to mess with right???

My 1998 Alpine has a factory installed manually operated awning. Other early coaches may be the same.

…..main OEM awning vs aftermarket individual window awnings, or maybe a replacement main awning? OP doesn't mention looking for or trying to use the electric switch to deploy the awning???? …references to "knobs and levers" wouldn't apply to the operation of newer OEM main Alpine "awnings"...but again it is a 2000???????

That is exactly why you have to be year specific with Alpine advice.
Mark how about telling us more about the awning, right now all we know for sure is it’s an A & E?

A and E awning
Happy Thanksgiving. Third time trying to attach pics. Sorry about no info:2000 Alpine Coach L.E. 36FDS. 330 HP. Original owner did get several options. There is a A and E Domestic sticker on awning. Is the right side upper latch or knob to be in up or down position? Awning has round metal cover similar in look to horizontal vinyl siding on a house. Electrical; no switch on left side of entrance door other than 3 light switches, no switch in bay by entrance door. There is no strap to be seen. We tried pushing up on legs to unlatch awning. We have no ladder. I have read and tried everything even iui f not mentioned.
Thanks Mark

Latch needs to be in the down position.
That's a manual awning. much more adjustable than the electric ones. I miss my manual awning.

Take your awning rod and flip this switch. The square looking ones on the awning rails are travel locks (I do believe) and you have to do something with them (give them a tug with the awning rod and maybe they'll release the awning). Since you don't have a ribbon to pull on, once you get the rails released and the ratcheting switch flipped you should be able to pull on the rails near the top of them to unfurl the awning. You'll need to have the awning ribbon to retract the awning because when you flip that circled switch the other direction, you'll use the ribbon to control the speed of the reel. Hope I'm splaining it right. You're going to need a ladder or two for the first unfurling unfortunately.
