Notwithstanding a small but chronic freon leak in our circa 2002 Amana residential refrig, I noticed on our last trip [Las Vegas and Pomona] that the frig side was, for once, maintaining very steady temps. This happened after I removed the cover from behind the temp control knobs [on frig side]. My suspicion is that the cover may be diverting the very cold air from the freezer cross-vent directly on to the refrig temp sensor coil (coil located beside the freezer cross-vent and behind the cover). Prior to removing cover the refrig was running frequently and temps on the refrig side often stayed above the recommended 40 degrees despite knob settings or temps on freezer side. Now I just have to come up with a decorative solution to hide what was behind the cover.
