Basement door lock inop

I have a 2002 MDD, and I can't open the basement door that allows access to the water/sewer hookups. What I really need to do ASAP is open the low-level drains before a big cold spell setting in soon. I can work the lock, but when I press the button the latch fails to flip out, and I can't force it. Does anybody know what's causing this and how to fix it?

When this happened to me on my 2001 38 ft fd, it turned out that something had moved and did not allow the latch to move. I ended up pulling on the bay door to open it. The latch did not break on my coach. If it happens to me again I will just give it a hard pull and it should open. The latch only keeps honest people out they secure the bay doors but are not theft proof.

Wonder if you can access the lock from below-- remove the sewer screw-in plate and use either a wrench or socket on to remove the lock mechanism.

Like Dave, I have had the same problem with something shifting near the door latch. Gave it a good spray of WD40, banged the door a few times and it released. Then another good spray of WD40 on the inner workings. It is my sewer door that sticks, because of the accumulation of trinkets near the latch.

Basement door fixed now

First, thanks to everyone who replied; it was very helpful. I was able to open the door after the ice thawed. There was a rag blocking the latch mechanism from behind. I could have opened the access hole under the drain, but it turned out to be unnecessary. This should be on a sticky for Alpine newbies. Thanks again, all!
