Bilstein shock absorbers

I am trying to replace the shocks on my '04 FDTS. The front ones are easy to find. On the rear shocks the part number has been partially and intentionally obscured. Apparently that means they have been modified. The tech department at Bilstein is supposed to be trying to figure this out for me.

Has anyone else run in to this, and if so, what was the resolve?

I am grateful for your input. Bob

Most of us have switched to Koni or Road King.

Jeep.
My take would be, forget the Bilsteins and get some real shocks.
Only exception to that advise is if they are giving you new shocks under warranty and paying for installation. Then you're good for maybe another 20,000 miles.

You can google Koni shocks/Alpine for info on their products. Or Shock Warehouse.

Others will have more advice.

Exactly the opposite would be the preferred choice.

Installed the 99's on the front last year and new 88's on the rear yesterday. Ride and handling have improved dramatically. Had 88's F&R previously.

Thanks for all the suggestions and information. It looks as though I should be looking at the Koni shocks. A little more money, but it sounds easier, and apparently a better shock.

I am so grateful for this site and all the people that help out when some advise is needed. Thanks to all that gave input, Bob

I just installed the 99's front, but did not replace the 88's rear. Looks like you initially did the same, and then later also changed the rears. Would be interested to hear your experience on this.

In my case, the new 99's have reduced rebounds. My old front 88's don't seem to be worn out with about 25k miles, so I didn't go from horrible to where I am now.
