Empty when 2/3 full or more. Flush well with clean water. You don't need chemicals.
Oh, and don't store RV with sewage in tank.

X2 for Happy Camper.
We dump our end-of-day soapy kitchen water down the toilet, as well. Dawn dish soap is a degreaser - keeps the "stuff" from sticking to the walls of the tank. And the extra water is better in the black tank than in the grey tank.

Been a happy Happy Camper user as well but recently I started using a product from a company called MircoBlaze. Big difference for me is that MB seems to break down TP faster than Happy Camper. I now only need to rinse my tank once (although I still do 2) with HC I needed to rinse 3 times to get rid of all solids.
Just my personal observations - Steve

I guess I'm lucky that I can get to mine through the toilet. I flush and flush with a hose in the hole and the valve open until nothing but water flows past the hole. I've never had an odor problem.

Water.. The stuff on the store shelf/hooks is a waste of money.
(Conisder.. When you use that stuff you are ACTUALLY pouring money down the toilet)
Keep the valves closed or keep a water trap in the hose if allowed (not allowed in, for example,Las Vegas) unless you are dumping and dump with at least 2/3 full. Best odor control system.

We have been using Happy Camper for years, when I dump I add about 10 to 15 Gal of water and Chemical in the tank I have had no problems since the Black Tank on the Alpine is 78 Gals. That will help break down any thing that may be left in the tank. Even when we are storing after a trip.

It's "Happy Camper" and here's the website:
https://www.5starhappycamper.com/
FWIW ... I use treatment products found at Walmart in gallon sizes - better cost!?. It really doesn't take much. I fill the tank with water after the initial dump to a level higher than before the initial dump. Dumping that water serves to help keep the tank a little cleaner. You can also fill the tank up between 25-50% with some dish washing soap added and travel to the next destination. The coach movement will serve to agitate the solution and then dump after arriving at the next destination. My problem is keeping the gray tank deodorized.

How long do you guys store your black "inventory"? We use the motorhome on weekends, and sometimes skip a couple. Usually don't fill a black tank even in two weekends. Probably half. Never an odor problem yet though. This coach we have had for less than a year, and there must be some "inventory" on a sensor or two.
Oh, we have a dump station at home. So timing isn't really an issue.

Been said before. Rinse tanks well, dump when 2/3 full and don't store with anything in the tanks. This has worked for me for over 200,000 miles in 4 different coaches. And I might have saved a buck or two along the way. Everything else is someone's way to separate you from your money or to cover your butt when you're too lazy to do it use the systems right.
