If you look a couple posts above titled, FRONT ENTRY DOOR, there is a picture of the deadbolt and door handle and lock assembly, there is only one latching point on the door handle.
It works like an old car door, a notched lever flips up when it contacts the round striker and latches the door. You can see the linkage mechanism on the deadbolt also.
