Carbon monoxide (CO) is slightly lighter than air, so carbon monoxide alarms are effective when placed on the ceiling or high up on a wall.
Propane is heavier than air, so propane detectors are near the floor.

Have there been any reports of WRV not installing these types of safety things? I had no evidence of a smoke detector ever be installed in mine when I bought it....

On our 2001 it was in the bedroom on the wall. I would guess it was about chest high.I would recommend just buying a new battery operated one at your favorite home store and install. I mounted it next to the old one and disconnected the wires. It was larger than the replacement and I didn't want the holes showing.
On the old one, I used to push the TEST function and it would always work, but I think that is only a circuit test, not one where the unit was injected with a bit of CO to be a good test.

My 1998 has a CO detector recessed into the bed room ceiling and a LP gas detector mounted in the dining alcove wall at floor level below the reefer, adjacent to the furnace and across the hall from the cooktop. Very close to all the propane appliances.
There is a metal bracket on the ceiling above the living room sofa that I assume is a mount for a smoke detector-that I need to re-install.
So even in the first production year WRV provided all the detectors that are now required in all residential construction.

The carbon monoxide detector on my '04 was a Safe-T-Alert 60-541. Do a google search and you will find a picture of it. They are still available, as the 65-541. It is on the wall headed into the bedroom mounted about 5 foot high, wall mounted with wiring coming from behind it. It is 12v. Easy to replace.

Jeep401, in 2005 WRV installed the only smoke detector directly above the driver’s seat, if you want a photo I will send you one from our 38’ 2005.

That's what I read also, but absolutely no evidence of it ever being done????
I put two in as soon as I bought it, one in each end.
Thanks.

PO might have removed it, or WRV did not install one, however a smoke detector was a requirement in 2005. Look directly above the driver’s seat for 2 small holes in the ceiling.

Just to be clear, a smoke detector is not a carbon dioxide detector and vice versa. They are two different detectors for different purposes. You need BOTH.

In 2005 that is true, in 2018 one detector can do BOTH!
