Typically has to be ON to connect to the charger, but check for yourself. After a day or longer in storage, the battery voltage will either be 12.8v or lower indicating no charge, or 13.2v or higher indicating float charge.

For most Alpines, the charger/inverter 12v circuit by-passes the switches and goes directly to the house bats. You need to make sure the Vansco system logic is working and that the bat solenoid isolator is functioning to charge the chassis bats from the house bats. Newer Alpines have the three-switch bat config. which I believe allows the two bat banks to be connected full time--hopefully an owner of a newer Alpine will chime it. Keeping the switches in the off position would isolate most of the draws in the coach from discharging the bats.

Ok, I have an 06, switch’s need to be on if you are plugged in. If the switches are turned off the Vansco will be off and can’t turn on the relay that connects the 2 battery banks. If your only plugged into a 15amp outlet you need to set converter/charger to a lower amp setting. I turn my charger down to 5amp for storage. Even though I’m plugged into 50amp service. Keep an eye on battery voltage. Around 13-13.4 is a safe voltage.

On all coaches, the inverter/charger is directly connected to the House battery bank. There is a manual house+chassis connect switch in the battery bay on later model coaches. If you don't want your Vansco powered up while in storage, you can simply connect both battery banks via the manual switch. Then the chassis batteries will also be maintained, even with both battery disconnect switches off. This applies to AGM or flooded battery types.

If you have lithium house batteries, then you probably have a DC-DC charger, or other charger, to maintain the chassis battery. In this case, there is no need to have the Vansco powered on. You could keep the chassis and house disconnects off, and all batteries will all charge fine.

So this is only true if you have a 07 or newer Alpine with the 3 switches in battery compartment. They have a third switch that combines both battery banks. Older Alpines don’t have that switch. If you have an 06 and older with Vansco house switch needs to be on for both banks to charge. Older Alpines w/o Vansco need to have an Echo Charger to charge start batteries from house batteries.
