Hydraulic issue could be the shuttle valve not closing.
Your fuel sender sounds as though it is working correctly and just needs some adjusting. It does not go through the Vansco, to my knowledge. Removing the wire sends a signal that is outside of the acceptable range, hence the gauge swinging from E to F. The arm may need to be bent, lengthened or shortened slightly so that the resistance is near 240 ohms when the float is at the top of the tank. That adjustment may alter the resistance when the float is at the bottom of the tank where resistance should be near 35 ohms. Some fiddling may be necessary.
I recently performed the task with the assistance of another Alpine owner. We took measurements from the center of the fuel sender port on the tank to the top and bottom of the tank. We then clamped the sender to the hitch and swung the arm to what we determined were the F and E positions, while metering the resistance at each position. Full was approximately 3” above the center of the port and E was approximately 15” below the port.
A recent fill up after the adjustment showed the gauge to be very accurate. The needle was a tad above 1/2, which I estimated for the 115 gallon tank would indicate 50 gallons used and 65 remaining. It took 47.7 gallons to fill. I have yet to determine the accuracy on the bottom half, but I suspect it will be reasonably accurate. I will say that the needle doesn’t “peg” on the full setting as it did previously, but it wasn’t this accurate before.
Thanks Carter.
