I have been assured that the sat receiver that is being put in the Apex will work with either Dishnet or DirectTV. Has anyone attempted to go Dishnet? Also does it have digital recording capabilities?
Thanks,
Lyle

Hello!
Congratulation again on your new Apex! The guys at Alpine tell me they can reprogram the king dome to work with Dish or Direct. The receiver my have to be changed. The current receivers are not digital recorders.

Well hi Rich,
glad to see you joined the forum, welcome.
If I change receivers to one with recording capabilities will they be able to program that into the solitary remote?

Dont know about the High Def units, so cant comment. However we have had both Direct system and now have Dish system. Dish has a DVR available and it works well. How ever!! I will soon be switching back to Direct. The Dish system does not lend itself well to an Rv envirenment. That is because Dish requires your receiver to automatically switch between satellites 119 and 110. Since part of the programs are on each of the satellites. We have a KVH in motion dish and have had others as well and none of them seem to respond well to the signal put out by DISH sattelites, that is, the signal that tells your receiver to switch when you change channels is not designed for the moveable type
rv system. Hope that makes sense. Also When using DISH you have to put up with waiting while the program guide updates. This can take 2 minutes or more. Direct does not work this way. If some one disagrees with me on this, let hear it. I can learn from them.

Stretch,
Thanks for your response and it isertainly something to consider. I must say that we had one "heck" of a time getting dish to work properly. Switching between 119 and 110 was a major hassle until they spent about 8 hrs and replaced just about everything at a rally then it worked very well and we have had not a problem since.Does DirectTV have 2 sats or?

Lyle & Cath, DirectTV uses 3 sats, 101 for the majority of stations, 119 for Local channels, & 110 for the high def channels which are very limited at this time. We have a Tracstar inmotion dish on our unit. http://www.tracstar.net/

I agree with george on the three sats. one is for all stations but local the other is for spot beams for local stations that you cannot receive but in your local area, (although I seem to be able to get the locals all over the west coast), and the other is for High Def. So really most everything is on one channel with Direct.

I think I will try it with dish first since we have it at our home base also making it fiscally prudent. I get New York and Denver and local on my batwing so we get three different time zones making it a blessing with the new fall line up.
