Emergency Flashers INOP

My emergency flashers are not working. I have turned them on via the smart steering wheel switch with and without the ignition tuned on and no luck. Any ideas?

Check your flasher unit.

Some are on the fuse block and others are on a pigtail somewhere under the dash.

The 4 way flasher unit is normally seperate from turn signal flasher unit. (I have never seen them in one unit) These units are usually metal covered switching units some are round and some are square/rectangular and about 1-2 inches high.

Perhaps someone with the identical coach to yours might be able to give you specifics on its location. You can put your signal light on and feel for the clicking for that relay and the other one should not be far away.

Hope this helps but the flasher unit is the first place to look in your scenario.

If you have a chassis schematic diagram that flasher should be shown and likely the compartment indicated.

Did this happen before or after you reset the Vansco unit?

If it's like mine there will be two of them under the panel in front of pass seat one for emergency flasher the other for turn signals. Swap them if it works, you need to replace the dead one.

I'm not sure precisely how the flasher signal is "created." The switch isn't a SmartWheel device, but its mounted on the Douglass telescopic steering column assembly. So switch signal either goes to the SmartWheel module to create the signal to flash all 4 corners, then sends that signal to the Vansco, or the Douglass switch goes direct to Vansco to create the signal. I'm suspecting the latter.
So it would be either a problem w/the switch or w/the Vansco.

Did this coincide w/replacing the radio? If so you may have shorted out more than just the windshield wipers.

The emergency flashers were not working prior to my radio replacement. Today I verified that when I press and hold the flasher switch on the smart wheel, the appropriate input and output lights come on the Vansco box, but when I relase the switch, the Cansco lights go out. It seems like the emergency flashers aren't latching the switch in the Vansco??

Do the flashers outside work while you have your switch depressed?
Does the switch in the steering column latch down (push-on-latch/push-off-unlatch)? And if yes, you are saying it does not latch or that the flasher lights do not flash outside?

The flasher switch in the steering wheel is not the latching type. When I push and hold it, the marker lights stay on, but when I just press it once, the lights don't stay on or flash. I suspect the Vansco is not doing what it is suposed to do when the switch is pressed. Ideas?

Mine pulls out & "latches" (really its just out, there's no detent that spells a latch) w/flashers on even w/key off. Which means the "switch" signal is On till I push the switch back in & Off.
Does your pull out?

Mine is a micro switch in the smart wheel.

I'm going to guess that the switch isn't working properly since the long-press returns signal as long as you are long-pressing, but doesn't latch.
IIWMI'd go to the SW module & check for markings that indicate flasher signal in, interrupt that wire w/a push-on-push-off switch mounted on the steering wheel as a get by (flashers pretty important), then query SmartWheel about a replacement or repair.
Here is a link to the SmartWheel Troubleshooting Guide for certain models. If not your model, there may be another troubleshooting manual on their site if you poke around.
