Engine air filter
We have a 2005 Alpine Coach 36FDDS with a 8.9 liter ISL 400 hp CM850 engine. The 2005 WRV manual states at page 86 that the air filter is a Fleetguard part number AS25549. (It states "AS" but I think it should be "AF.") I don't trust this manual, and I have heard that there is a similar filter number for the 350 hp engine that will fit, but not seal.
I called Cummins, and they say they don't have a number, and that I have to call the manufacturer, who of course is long gone.
Can anyone verify the filter number?

I would pull the old filter out and see if there is any identification on it. I would also take pictures and measure inlet/outlet , diameter, and length.
In my case the filter and canister are made as a complete filter. When I replaced my filter early this year I checked the web and found the best price at Filter Barn. The one thing that I wanted to confirm was that there was a wire mesh on both inside and outside of the filter media. I had read several accounts where a filter failed and didn't have the wire mesh.

Don’t use a K&N (on your Alpine)!
Previous owners of our coach “dusted” the engine with a K&N air filter requiring a very expensive rebuild. That said, I’ve had a K&N filter on our truck for 29 years!

...since curious minds really want to know more about our air filters....shortly after the 400ISL came to our Alpines, there was a potential problem with air filters....as I understand it, the original filter for a 350 was a AF2554[8]. The opening on this filter was slightly smaller than the 400 air filter.....so if you used a the 350 filter on a 400, the smaller opening hung up on the alignment cone at the rear of the canister and didn't allow the filter to seal to the canister....the likely result was a dusted 400....to the contrary, a 400 filter on a 350 was/is probably ok?????
OR....I am old and really don't remember.....

Everyone, thanks for the confirmations and the cross-references. Where do you recommend I get one?
I can't find it on Cummins Parts online. I called Cummins and they said they are $129.16.
Amazon has the Cummins AF25549 for $159.02 ($121.89 + $37.13) by Farm Parts Store, but usually ships in 1 to 3 weeks!
I called two NAPA auto parts. They cross to the NAPA 6904 made by WIX. One wanted $196.01. The other wanted $150.99.
And I thought Cummins was high!

I’ve always gotten them from Cummins. The Cummins Power Club dropped the annual membership fee this year. If you join, they will send out emails several times each year with discount offers. Typically, 15-25% off.

Agree with RVP--guess not all Cummins shops are the same but I have found prices to be pretty good at my local Cummins here in San Antonio....

I buy my filters from Simply Filter. They show the above Fleetguard OEM filter for $ 101. with free freight. Check them out. They also carry Nelson Mufflers. I purchased the original style Nelson / Alpine muffler from them. It is the same OEM model that has the same baffles and sound. Delivery is very quick as well.
