Got our spare vansco’s today

Just a quick update.
Ordered 4 Vansco units about 2-3 weeks ago.
Not hard at all, except they only had 3 in stock.
Seeing how we wanted 2 and ordered 2 others for friends on here, we said just send the 3 and the 4th later.

It was not nearly as hard, nor were they as hard to deal with as expected.
In fact they felt awful they didn’t have all 4.
I would encourage anyone with the Vansco system to carry a spare.
It isn’t that hard.

That's good to hear. I've been thinking about a spare myself.
I've only been out with mine once since I bought it and had two link comm errors in 800 miles.
I don't know if it's even related at this point, but a spare is definite on my short list.

How much do they cost now?

.....Engineer Mike has a very interesting twist on a potential cause for certain types of "comm. errors" on Vansco-powered rigs. Basically, it boils down to a pin alignment issue with one or two pins in the multi-pin connector plugs on the outside of the front bulkhead. Pretty sure he has discussed this before on this forum but I haven't tried doing a search on it.....

The unit is $1500, plus a $25 acount fee and some shipping.
$250 will get it pre programed for you.
We chose not to have it pre programed.

Good to know. That's a lot if I never need it, but cheap to get the rig running again. I'm thinking about a spare or two.

That's why we bought a couple. Figured if I'm ever along the road somewhere and one goes out how much it cost is probably going to be the least of my concerns

They will program themselves when you plug them in, correct? If so, what’s the point in getting one pre-programmed?

Yes, an unprogrammed VMM will auto-program itself off the other good VMM if the program sequence is followed. Program sequence is posted on the Alpine Coach Association Tech Library page under Chassis & Brakes. This has not been proven on a 2004 model year coach to my knowledge but has on later models.
