Heater Hose Identification

I am replacing the coolant in my 2006 Alpine LTD. While the coolant is drained I am considering adding valves to the heater hose lines in case they ever failed I would be able to isolate them. I think I have correctly identified the heater hose lines. Could someone who has possibly done this or has replaced their heater hoses verify my assumption.

In the first picture we are looking at the back of the engine looking down on top of the engine. The heater hoses are labeled 1 and 2. The second picture shows where hose 2 terminates. The picture is looking up from the bottom of the coach and the connection point is tight below the alternator.

Is my assumption correct that these are the termination points for the heater hoses that travel forward to the heater core.

Thanks

Rick,

I replaced my hoses a couple of years ago, seemed like a good idea at the time?!?!

It looks like you're assumption is correct. I have Hydro Hot so I had two hoses and two nipples. I believe they were marked with colored tape at both ends.

On mine there are two nipples behind/under the alternator and two at the rear top of the engine under the hatch in the bedroom floor.

The heater hose on mine runs from the front of the engine to the heater core and from the heater core back to the rear of the engine.

The HH hose runs to the HH unit and returns to the rear of the engine.

I installed valves at the front and rear of the engine, 2 in each location. The engine front valves are below the alternator attached to the frame and the other two are about a foot from the block under the hatch.

I am kicking around the idea of adding a valve(s) at the heater core like others have suggested.

I hate to state the obvious but I'm guessing your gonna add new hose between the block and the valves.

I also carry a couple of spare 5/8" brass barbed hose splices for emergency use.

Terry

FWIW,

I found it easier to undo and move the alternator to get to my hoses. I believe one was accessible but the second one was hidden behind the alternator. I accessed them from the top.

Oh yeah! I also carry two hose clamp off pliers so I can clamp off the heater hose or other hoses if needed.

Thanks for the reply Terry. Just went out and checked. The hose that connects under the alternator has a green tape wrapped around it and the hose connected to the head at rear of the engine has a red tape wrapped around it. Not sure but the red tape might indicate hot water water coming out of the head and the green tape indicates the cooler water returning to the block. Just a thought.

There was red and green tape up front by the 'H' valve on mine. I'm thinking your on the mark with red as hot coolant and green a return line.

Excellent! It just makes to much sense. Got all my parts. Should be operational shortly.
