I have heard 3.6 lbs discussed but most are managing levels by pressure(s) like the "Old School" system that it is

Best to add by gauge reading.

And, if like the 2003, where dash A/C condenser is in front of the CAC/radiator, there will be little or no air flow unless engine coolant temperature calls for the fan to run.

To properly charge, I lightly sprayed the condenser with a garden hose so the system would function properly while adding freon.

Makes no difference what the system holds unless you are going to vacuum it down and start with the system empty.
With a gauge set connected and the system running you could add to what you have till you get 40 lb on the low pressure side.
Probably uses r134a but you need to make sure.

Unless you completely empty the system, The total charge is useless. Use a gauge and charge by suction pressure.

To recharge the system properly, you need to first perform a leak check and repair any leaks. You also need to be watching high side pressure as well as there can be other problems in the system that will prevent proper cooling.

Your low and high pressures are changed by the ambient temp as well. Get an AC pressure chart and look for the ambient temp, then you can determine what pressures you are looking for.
