Knowing it is easy to forget the simple things, the solution I opted for is low tech and idiot proof. Required, a Sharkbite elbow, a piece of Pex, a PVC elbow and small piece of plastic wrap . Fitted the Sharkbite to the end of the forward vent, connected the Pex and ran under the propane tank. Fill the tank until water runs out of the vent. Turn water off, walk over and place plastic wrap over the end of the Pex and hold it in place by slipping the PVC elbow over the plastic and the PEX. Done! If, during the next tank fill I forget to open the vent, the plastic will give way long before the tank does. From my home base, have to drive down a very steep hill for a couple of miles. Use to loose 10 to 15 gallons. Problem solved.

I tapped into the front overflow and extended it back to the wet bay. I ran it straight down in the corner and put a valve in it. I fill until water flows out of the pipe and then close the valve and top off. Having it in the wet bay helps me keep it in mind while filling my tank and all the wet stuff is in one spot. So far so good.
