Smile I have two Questions on Venting

My Fuel cap is not venting the tank. Is this normal or is the cap bad?

The second question is a bit more involved. I just took my first trip in the Coach. It is a 2005 40' Triple Slide Mdl. The previous owner appears to have installed a shut off valve in the front of the coach at the Propane tank area. When I look at the Plumbing diagram this valve appears to be on the tank venting line. I was told to open the valve on this line until water flowed out of it, then shut off the water supply to fill the tank and close the valve. This would prevent the tank from syphoning. There also appears to be an overflow on the tank in the general area of the low point drains.

When I pulled the Fresh Water Drain Valve with the valve located in the front vent line by the propane tanks closed, the fresh water tank was collapsing during the drain process. Does anyone know the reason fro the shutoff valve on the line at the front of the tank? How is this tank vented during normal Use?

Also--Does anyone know where/how to match the manufactured paint codes? The local paint suppliers do not know how to match either the WRV or IF numbers as they do not know the paint manufacturer.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Alpine Coach - Technical Information

Choose from "Paint Codes" at the top. May now show your coach, but may.

PAINT:

I just happened to find our Paint Codes on the inside of one of the kitchen cabinet doors yesterday- Sikkens, I believe, is the type/manufacturer, and three color codes.

Welcome to iRV2 and the world of Alpine Coaches. You'll get lots of help here.

The drain valve/line you're finding by the LPG tank is most likely what most of us owners have installed to prevent siphoning from occurring when the water tank is full. We all found that the water tank can lose up to 15% after filling and then traveling to the next location. We fill the tank with the valve closed and then open it once you've arrived at your next destination. It should remain open except when completely full and traveling. FYI, there is also a rear drain but it's attached to the top of the tank unlike the front drain which is attached to the side.

Many of us have attempted to track down the original paint codes as well as paint manufacturer only to find that the paint shop can NOT create a perfect match. Good paint shops can perform a computer match which works very well. This has been my experience and I've had 2 - paint shops perform work with great results. My suggestion is to find a "good" paint shop for RV's.

Good luck!

Welcome to iRV2 and the Alpine Owners forum I think Bob's comment missed one important step. When filling the tank never forget to open the vent valve before adding water. When you see water running out of the vent tube the tank is full. Turn water off then close the valve. I usually open the vent line again after using enough water to avoid siphoning.

Yep, this is my experience as well. The paint codes only get you in the ball park.
