ISL Air Filter

I just wanted to give everyone a new source for air filters....After checking locally for a air filter for our 2005 Alpine 34fdds with a 400 Cummins.......napa was over $100, Cummins was right around $100, after doing a few internet searchs I found one at a site I have never used before, it is drillspot.com, and the price was $84.95 including shipping. I was looking for a Fleetguard, but this one is a Baldwin #pa3499. When it arrived, it was actually in a Grainger box, a company I have used in my Building Maintenance company for years, pretty nice surprise.....just a fyi....Mike.

Ryder Fleet Products has the Fleetguard filter for $75, plus shipping. And shipping was less than $10.

At Filterbarn.com they're $50.82. Other filters are cheap there too.

IIRC FilterBarn gets "seconds" mostly defined by dents in the metal portion of elements. As long as the seal portions are A-OK, they are a good source. I bought a spare air filter there which had a small ding but nothing that will endanger filtration.

I have purchased from Filterbarn: 2 air, 1 oil, 1 fuel, primary & secondary transmission filters, and 1 coolant filter and never noticed any physical damage to them. I have always physically inspected them but never had anything more than a scratch on the paint on the outside of the oil filter.

Just received my order today from Filterbarn
1-Air, 2-Oil, 2-Fuel, and 2-Coolant Filters.
Order was over $100 so free shipping. Everything arrived well packaged and in perfect condition (not seconds). I will use them in the future.

I prefer to use the OEM filters, that way there is no finger pointing if something is wrong with the filter. It's not worth saving a few $ on. Filters are cheap, repairs are not.
Now if I can get a bargain on the OEM filter that's great but I won't buy non-OEM ones.

I've used Nelson, Fleetguard, and WIX in the past for my earlier 1998 Alpine and my current 2008 Alpine. Like most filters, the driving conditions seem to be the biggest factor in changing them out. While I typically carry spares if I'm going to be on a long trip in dusty areas, e.g., trip to and from Alaska, the recent sand storm on I-10 between Banning and Palm Springs (the big wind farm area) caught me by surprise and forced me to replace my air filter in the Palm Springs / Indio CA area at a premium price before driving on east to Phoenix. As per research of others, appears like the filterbarn.com is among the lowest cost supplier when you have time to wait for a replacement or for purchasing spares. There appear to be slight differences in dimensions as you can note below but I haven't noticed much difference visually in construction quality.

For my 2008 Alpine, the Fleetguard/Cummins AF25549, WIX 46904, Luber-Finer 636LAF7472 seem to work fine. More equivalents are listed below from the FRAM website -- I've found most retail for about $70 to $80 plus nominal shipping except for a few discount houses like www.filterbarn.com and other sites posted above where you can sometimes find a Fleetguard or one of the equivalents in the price range of $45 to $55 plus shipping. ray

I use Tennessee Filters in Nashville Tennessee and they are probably about 30-35% less than any other place I have found even including the UPS charges. I have shopped them a lot as we run a lot of highway miles and I have not been able to beat thier prices and service. You can Google them for the website as I do not have it with me.

Mike and Amy: I think you did just fine with your air filter order. www.filterbarn.com is only a little less for a Fleetguard AF25549. By the time you add their least expensive shipping of $21.09 to their Fleetguard price of $52.58. You end up paying $73.67 for a product, according to others, that may (and might not) have a few minor dings, etc. I tried to get free shipping for two Fleetguard filters and they don't have two in stock but did have 2 FRAM filters that didn't qualify either for free shipping since they ended up being slightly under $100. However, if packaged weight of any assortment of products of $100 or more exceeds 10 lbs, you still don't get free shipping. Also, now http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/ is up to $78.23 for the Fleetguard filter plus about $8 shipping (You need a $250 order or more to get free shipping). BTW, I wouldn't recommend a FRAM filter. ray
