Jack spring tool

I made this simple tool to use with my floor jack to install jack springs. I had tried the clothes pin method, but the springs compressed the Chinese wood and it was not working well. I went out and bought some 3/16 x 1 inch stock and cut into 3 inch pieces to put between the springs. Was going to do that this morning. But, put my thinking cap on (in other words, woke up at 3 AM with this idea and fell back to sleep) and came up with this method, which worked great.

Put the plate on the floor jack and go all the way up to the base of the jack plate. Adjust the hook to the height required to capture the spring end. Tighten the nut until the spring is at the hole and push in. So simple a Caveman can do it.

You might want to set your alarm clock for 3 AM because that looks so simple even I could handle it. Great idea

I would have gotten a stack of small washers and bent the spring back and forth inserting washers into the spaces until the spring was long enough to hook in. Then I'd start pulling the washers out.

Your way looks like it'd actually work
