I've had my 2001 alpine coach for a year. It has been entertaining trying to get things done that involve the serial number. For instance, i bought a maintenance warranty. The company (us warranty) could not find out anything about my coach via the serial number. On my warranty documents, the chassis is listed as "freightliner". I bought the warranty primarily because i was concerned about the brakes (my coach had just 17k miles on it and had been stored for a long period of time). Sure enough, i have had some brake problems. Since most of the work has been covered by the warranty, i have let a local shop work on my coach. I have had to supply most of the part numbers using resources from this forum. Sometimes, i have taken the parts to the napa store, and they used the manufacture's number to cross reference new parts. Getting to the point, when i took off the inside door panel, i expected to see normal lock mechanisms. What i found was a rube goldberg custom arrangement. When i considered the things i needed to do to install the keyless lock, it was concerning to me that i would be cutting parts that would be hard and/or expensive to replace. When i weighed the risk vs reward, i viewed the risk out of proportion to the reward. That skeered me. I'll use a key. I am ok with that.
