Keyless Entry For Door/Cargo Bays
This past weekend we picked up our new 2008 40 FDQS when we got home Mike noticed that the keys we got with the coach did not lock the bay doors. We know that we can replace the locks from Southco. What we would like to do is add the keyless entry controled by the key fob for the front door and the bays.
Has any Alpine Coach owner done this? Is there a kit that you can buy to do it yourself?
We are disapointed a little that the coach did not come with it.
Thanks
Carol & Mike

Depending on the type of locks you are likely looking at 100 to 200 dollars per bay door

Keyless Entry/Key Fob
Hi John,
Could you give me a little more information,
1.) Is the price what a locksmith would charge?
2.) Can you buy a kit, parts ect. to do it yourself?
3.) Did Western RV put the remote keyless entry on any of the Alpines?
4.) If so what Mfg. did they get it from.
Thanks,
Carol

I had the keyless entry installed by the factory on my 2006 Alpine Coach Limited as a special option. The system is called the e-ASK Electronic Access Security Keyless-entry. This is the manufacturer information that I got from WRV:
TriMark
500 Bailey Avenue
PO Box 350
New Hampton, Iowa 50859
641-394-3188
Web link to the system:
http://trimarkcorp.com/en/zCategory....categoryid=172
I have a manual for this system if you would like for me to email it to you.

That's the price for electric locks, I left off installation.
I also left off the control system That's just the price for the electric release striker

Thanks Dale for your help.
My husband Mike has contacted Trimark and placed an order for the
keyless entry system today.

Carol:
You can get the keys for the bins from any locksmith, it is the proverbial CH751, just like every other coach uses. Are you thinking to replace each of the bins with electric locks, too? How much more is that, than the basic system? It's not obvious on the website, since they don't show the Southco locks we have.
If you keep the keyed bin locks, your locksmith can change them to another key for about $5 each, plus $2 per key copy. I'm having that done this week. If you have the "cam" type lock just aft of the PS front wheel for the HWH equipment, they can change that to the same key, too. I can't remember the exact layout on your model/year.

The locks on the SE's and Apex's are different than the ones on the older coaches with the swing up doors. I don't know if all of the keys are the same as on the earlier coaches. The number on my Trimark key is 2001. The locks look like #060-0475 here, in chrome.

Dale:
Have you seen any on the older coaches (with swing up doors) with electric locks on the bins?
You're right, the Trimark locks don't look like they would retrofit the Southco locks without a little cutting. It's probably not hard to do (it's just aluminum).
I guess I'm getting lazy, but I'm afraid of scratching the paint finish with the key in the dark and I occasionally forget to lock a bin. Electrics would be nice, and a comfort (until they don't work ).
