King Controls Electronic Throttle System 1998 Alpine

The Electronic Throttle System on my 1998 Alpine has failed. I am currently on the side of I-5 near Lost Hills, Ca. waiting for the tow truck. About half way to my San Diego destination.

King Controls is long out of business. Does anyone know where I may find a replacement throttle control?

Was 1998 the only year that WRV used this system? Pre ECM. Used on mechanical engines.

It has failed in the past- lost ground-.But I was able to repair it. Has worked fine for several years,

Any one know of other Coach Brands that used this system?

Any other 1998 owners have a spare King Controls ETS that you're willing to sell?

Any other suggestions?

OK, let's get you off the side of the road WITHOUT A TOW.

If you are a SAVVY driver-- repeat IF you are a savvy driver:

You can rig a string from throttle to driver's seat. Elegant would be to run it through a PVC pipe at the front of the bed.

Been there, done that for 250 miles.

Not savvy/comfortable with that-- indeed look at options.

Long term-- Many have retrofitted an AIR THROTTLE SYSTEM.

Gene,
I've got the number for the guy that bought out the King Controls inventory and does repair on them. It has been two or three years since I talked to him. He is in Minnesota. 507-334-0250.
Hope this is helpful.

Here is something I found in the ACA library.

Brett, Tell me more about the Air Throttle System. I will also look to google.

I may try your string in a tube idea to get me to my destination. Not likely to get a repair done in this area.

Thanks to all for responses.

I talked to Steve in Minnesota. He has been helpful in the past. Today he said he closed down his business a couple of years ago because replacement parts became unavailable.

I plan to call him again tomorrow for help with trouble shooting. He is the only person I have ever spoken to that knows anything about the system.

Scottie, thanks for the schematic. Not sure what to do with it.

Here is a write up on doing this on a Foretravel with the same King Control throttle/cruise: https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=43481.0 Sorry, I could not find a good write up here on iRV2.

And if you do the string thing, it MUST run freely and allow for quick release.

Gene,

I did a google search on the model number on the schematic I posted and came up with this: Air Throttle

Scott,
Thanks for the link. I will need something.

Brett.
I couldn't get the Foretravel link to open. Any other ideas?

I got a para-cord throttle string installed today. Two 40 mile round trips to the nearest hardware store and at least 4 trips to the nearest NAPA store.

Works fine while stationary. Will try it on the road tomorrow.

This system may work better than the original! Just need to hide the string some how.

Thanks for the idea.

I had to go into the media section under air systems to open it. Maybe try that.
