The only way to achieve proper contact with such a switch or outlet is to tighten the screw. A loose screw is unacceptable. The wire may be “secured” around the screw if it is bent and squeezed into a nearly complete circle, but it will create a miserable connection which will arc and create a serious potential for an electrical fire. My heart goes out to those poor students.
I’ve always felt that the concept of agreeing to disagree was rather absurd. As if some sort of agreement had been reached.
Thankfully, Bob has provided us with information on a simple way to replace a broken switch. It will probably be another 15 years before it fails again.
