kwiki step fuse

2001 36' FDDS. Does anybody know where Alpine decided to hide the fuses for the step? I'm looking for the fuse for the step switch, not the door switch. That's the one that locks the step out when you don't want it retract all the time. I have power at both sides of the switch but not at the white wire in the pigtail underneath. any help would be appreciated, thanks

There are 3 fuses. One is on the ceiling of the battery compartment. One is in front of the passenger seat behind the dash panel, one is spliced into the pigtail for the step under the camper. The one under the camper is the one that normally causes trouble. It is NOT a waterproof fuse holder, and is exposed to the outside.

I have checked the fuses in the battery compartment and they are all good. 3 fuses, 2 30 amp and 1 15 amp. On my coach the fuse holder under the step is for aux lighting and not connected to anything. Behind the dash I haven't found any line mounted fuses, the only fuses I found are the ones mounted in the fuse blocks and none are 3 amp. I have looked at the fuse blocks which do identify what each fuse is for and nothing for the step. The search continues.

Here is what my dash looks like. The step fuse is circled. It connects to the terminal that energizes when the ignition is turned on.

On my coach, the coach wiring harness is wrapped around a post above the step to keep it from flapping around. The harness is covered in a black flexible plastic sheath. In that harness, under the wire protection plastic, us a fuse holder similar to the one found inside the cab. Unplug your steps and unwrap that harness so you can get it out for inspection.

Andy, your a wonderful person, Found the bad fuse wrapped in the plastic protection wrap underneath. I've owned my Alpine for 18 years and I can't find anything I like better, but boy did they do some interesting locations of components. I think, other than locating the fuse for the passenger seat in the battery compartment, this may be the best hide job they did (so far). So thanks again and happy trails.
