John,
It may help to post your location and if you're good to go now with the band aid fix that you have. How urgent is your situation?
A few months ago I believe somebody ordered a few VMMs for this reason. As I recall the thought was that there would be a few spares floating around in case somebody was broken down and needed one in a hurry. I believe the plan was to leave them unprogrammed in case there were some differences in the years and programs. The borrower could program it to his coach from his working VMM.
One could be overnighted and the recipient would either pay for it outright or order a new one and send it to the person who loaned it. I'm not sure what became of the idea but somebody will likely respond with more info.
Engineer Mike has a spare or two I believe, not 100% sure, but I know he's done some tinkering with them. He's on the forum and will probably chime in soon.
As for other MHs using them I haven't heard of any, MCI buses did or do use the same one if memory serves. That said, I don't know if a used VMM could be wiped clean and reprogrammed. I don't know if it's even been tried. A question for EM or one of the other smart guys on here.
Good Luck, Terry
