Need help with engine access
OK, so I am trying to gain engine access through the top. 2007 Alpine Limited.
I gave up trying to remove the carpet carefully long ago.
There is a plywood board that covers the step just below the closet that the board covers.
It has the angle on the passenger side.
I have removed the square head screws.
That board doesnt budge.
It does go under the bed part of the slide slightly, I can't imagine that there are screws there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am having the exhaust manifold changed tomorrow if I can gain access.
Thank you ahead of time.

The step and the back of step are one carpeted unit. Be sure to remove the screws on the back also.
On mine the right edge where it buts up to the remaining carpet there where so many miss-placed carpet staples. I had to remove them first.

So, it's open.
Thank you Gary for the heads up that the back board it part of it.
There is only one freaking person in the world that could have taken that off without completely destroying that whole area.
That's the guy who put in 23 screws and countless staples, never ever figuring anyone would ever have to access the engine compartment through the engine access panel.
It will be rebuilt much differently, where if anyone ever has to get in there again it will be much easier.
I am bloody, tired and glad that's over!

If the carpet is still attached to the board, you can tilt the board toward the bed and slide in. It does not need any attachment. It won't go anywhere. Mine hasn't moved in 7 years.

Some of the carpet is still attached.
The other is in various sizes.
Small torn pieces, medium torn pieces and one large cut out piece.

I need access because my front jake brake is not working - I was thinking about dynamite. Mine has a "Pacific Queen" which means it overlaps 6" more than a normal queen. PITA.

So here's my advice. Give up worrying about trying to put it back together the way you took it apart. Rip the freaking carpet off you will find screws in places where you have no idea.
The key for me was what I had read above, that the back piece is connected to the bottom piece.
I also found it taking a break every once in a while and calming down made the job easier!
