Need new ac unit

We need a new ac unit for the bedroom of our 2000 alpine coach. We have someone to install, just wondering what size & which ones are the best. Thanks for your help.

We replaced one a few years back with a Dometic Penguin 2, 15K btu with heat pump.

Are you replacing the front or rear unit? If it’s the rear, you may need a new control board installed in the front unit, in order to control the new unit. A new front unit should control the rear with no additional parts.

I had to replace my front one but had to replace both cause new front one needed new thermostat that wouldn’t talk to rear one. So ended up with 2 new heat pumps and new thermostat. I’m happy but my pocket book is not. $4k

You need to check compatibility with your existing thermostat and control boards. It can get to be a mess with the wrong boards or thermostat.

In anticipation of eventual AC failure (20 years old), I’ve researched replacement options. It’s my understanding that the new Penguin II is not compatible with the original thermostat or the old Penguin is you replace only one AC. I believe you have 3 options; 1) Use the old control board from the failed AC (if it’s still good?) in the new AC Or 2) Replace the thermostat with the new compatible thermostat and replace the control board in the old AC with a new compatible control board or 3) Replace both AC units an thermostat with the new Penguin II with corresponding thermostat.

Personally, I plan to replace all of it with AC only Penguin units because we never use the Heat Pump function and rely on the furnace. Just my 2 cents.
