Never, EVER do this!!!

I decided to build a spreadsheet and track what we have dollarwise in our coach since buying it 2 years ago.

I have a separate sheet to track maintenance and costs, this one is just the upgrades we have made, most of them were planned and many of the projects certainly got much bigger as we got into them......you know the "As long as I'm doing this I Might as well"

In our case we now have an amazingly competent electrical/battery/solar system that will run EVERYTHING in the coach including both rooftop AC units.

We also upgraded all the electronics, added residential refer, replaced all window coverings, floors, counters and revamped the cabinets to a much more modern standard.

Even with all these upgrades we still have much less in this amazing coach than we would have spent on even the cheapest Class A Gasser if we just bought something off a dealer lot.

In any case , just wondering how many of you actually keep track of such things or if ignorance is bliss.......Hmmmmmm

Rvng is a luxury hobby and as such I do not want to know otherwise I would have to quit

The only thing we track is when/where/how long/if we would go back info

Because you will be suicidal when you figure out how much you really spend on your RV. Just use and enjoy it and fix whatever it needs to keep you and the coach happy.

Boats, RVs, collector vehicles, Jeeps, motorcycles, hot rods and all the tools to service them, so yeah, never add up those receipts or it may ruin the enjoyment. My vote is for ignorance. After all, you can't take it with you, so do whatever makes you happy.
I enjoy tinkering and upgrading things to make them better than originally built.

The risk to keeping such detailed records is that the "other half" of the domestic relationship will find out just how much those "small" upgrades really cost. LOL Then she will go shopping with her friends to "even up" the score. But like Paul, we also are on an aggressive upgrade path and have enjoyed every bit of it.

To balance things off , figure a cost of a hotel room and three meals out per person per day , for every day spent in your RV .

I spend 5 1/2 to 6 months a year in mine , maintenance and upgrades are cheap by that comparison .

I also keep track of all the expenses Related to the MH.

DW said she doesn’t care!

Most everything that is bought to upgrade is a joint decision.

It is interesting to realize what you are actually spending but when compared to the summer I had to spend in motels for the entire summer the expenses are insignificant.

Record keeping just makes you realize it is not as cheap as some would like to believe but it isn’t really expensive when you have had to pay for other options.
