New TOAD for an old Alpine

I'm thinking of buying a 6,000 lb Suburban that will be towed behind my 36 ft 2003 Alpine coach when I vacation. I know the Alpine is rated for towing 10,000 lbs, but wonder if anyone has had actual experience towing that much weight with their Alpine. I'd appreciate hearing about anyone's experience towing a heavy vehicle behind their Alpine. Thanks.

We tow our 2008 Jeep Overland with a rated gross wt of 6150. We do load the Jeep but I have never weighed it, my guess is that it could be near 5400 lbs. I have a ISC 350 with a banks turbo and have no problem towing our Jeep.If your running an ISL 400 I think you would pull your Suburban just fine.

Pulled 2 different Silverados over the years with my 03 ISL400--rarely knew it was behind the coach--power-wise or MPG......

I tow a Lexus GX470 which weights around 6,000 lbs. My coach is a 1999 36' Alpine with 330 hp ISC engine. I do notice the SUV when pulling a steep grade like up hwy 395 from Bishop to Mammoth Lakes, but other than that the impact is negligible. Also, I can't tell a different in the MPG for towing verses not towing. One thing I am going to buy in the near future is a Ready Brake and get rid of the surge brake that I am currently using. The surge brake is a pain to keep operating properly.

I pulled a 24 foot race trailer rated 10k. I estimated my load at 8500 lbs. With race car, motor scooter, full size tool box, extra set of wheels etc. I have a 34 foot with the 400 hp. Donner pass at 65 if no one gets in my way.

Thank you for the informative responses. Sounds like cost is going to be the only negative:-(

I was referring to the cost of the Suburban as a negative.
