Just a heads up. When I ordered mine I believe they only had 2 in stock. One was promised to somebody and I got the other one. I had to wait about 2 weeks for JCA to receive a couple from PH. I got the impression they didn't/don't stock a bunch of VMMs.

Parker either has a stockpile & ships to JCA when ordered or assembles them when there is an order, so JCA can be out of 2820's for a few weeks at times.

MCI busses in fact used 2820's even prior to WRV/Alpine, that's where WRV got the idea. A used but working MCI VMM2820 can be reprogrammed to Alpine software. MCI probably had the largest "fleet" of 2820's in service & had configs w/3 VMM's up to 5 in a single bus (we have only 2), and with varying auto-programming protocols.

I sent the instructions file to the webmistress to reload, thanks for the 404 message alert.

JCA only had so much info on the 2820 uses (Vansco originally did all the tech support, then sold the rights to service the product line to JCA), so JCA's quoted knowledge over the phone has been varied in accuracy. So far as I know there is only Version 4 programming which is the highest level of autoprogramming in Alpines (could be some 04's have v3.0 but no actual sightings in the wild).

Programming is easy if you have one known good VMM plugged into the coach, you just start w/key-OFF, plug the new (unprogrammed) VMM into the empty spot, turn key-ON & follow the instructions herewith (I added some notes to Vansco's original instructions which I think may have been for v3.0 or v4.0; I think you'll find the programming is faster than indicated but YMMV).
If you have two blown VMM's, you can still order just the unprogrammed units; you'll have to have them programmed which I can do for an '05+ rig (this has never been tried for an Avalanche so not sure if the programming is same there). For an '04 we need a volunteer '04 coach w/good VMMs and either do a single replacement programming or borrow my "3rd-VMM" programming pigtail.

If somebody is dead in the water someplace due to a VMM failure, call me and we can probably arrange for you to borrow my spare which has '05-09 programming installed; for an '04 we'd need to do some tap danging to get it programmed backward, then I can program it back when Ur done or you can have the new one sent to me direct.
