Peak chassis and parts

Hello all, I am in a quandary trying to locate parts for my 99 WA 36SDS. Nobody seems to know the part #s for the brakes on the rear of my coach. Does anyone know of someone who worked at Western Alpine that I might be able to reach out to?
The dealerships and parts stores I've spoken with all require the last 8 of the VIN which in my case crosses over to a Chevy Silverado (sorry nope). I can't locate a rear rotor with the ABS tone ring ad without it ABS is useless. We've determined that the axle s from a workhorse chassis. I guess this is what happens when you purchase an out of production vehicle and an out of business manufacturer.

Take a deep breath--as research on this forum will show, with the exception of the frame itself, Alpines were built with generic components from off the shelf brands that are still common and available today, eg, NAPA is a good source for Alpine owners. There are plenty of experienced Alpine owners on this forum who can and will help you. But to begin with, if your tech service advisor believes your axle is from a work horse chassis, I would consider finding a new advisor.

Alpines changed through the years but I think your 1999 and my 2001 are virtually the same. The running gear on my coach is the same stuff that was used on thousands of school busses and medium duty trucks. The best way to get the right parts the first time is to take the number directly off the part you have. A good parts business (I used NAPA) can use the numbers off the parts and order what you need. Note that I ordered the wrong brake rotors the first time. There is some confusion in parts lists about this rotor. The first set I got were 15.3" in diameter and would not fit. The second set, ordered from the same manfacturer of the original rotors (Gunite) was correct. Note also that I ordered new calipers with all metal pistons. The originals came with a coating that would swell if exposed to water. This swelling caused sticking brakes, hot wheels, melted parts, expensive brake jobs, and occasional excitement on the road. Mine were the same - 4 of these: GUNITE D6176M - Disc Brake Rotor - 15.00 X 1.43 (Gunite)

Old Scout, we know it's a peak chassis however try to find parts for anything related to a peak chassis. My inference to the workhorse or Chevy B7 school bus was because that's what the casting for the caliper was for. The rotors I have found all seem to be a 1/4 inch larger than what came off and none have the ABS tone ring which is of concern since the ABS won't function otherwise.
If anyone has suggestions where to find the correct rotors I'm open for suggestions. One thing I do know I'll never purchase a motor home that is no longer in production

The Gunite D6176M rotor does have a tone ring as you can see in the photo. The only question is will it fit on your coach.

I didn't mean to imply that your search will be easy--but a fair number Alpine owners have been down this road and have had good success finding parts. Again, "Alpine Chassis" is incidental to the discussion. You will find brand names like Meritor, Dayton, and Nu-way Holland when looking for axle and brake parts. There are hours of reading on this website regard Alpine brakes--just use "f104 brakes" in your search string. Here is an example from a cursory look:
Caliper (4153222) - NAPA SE8609 (all 4 calipers are the same - get the metal piston version)

Rotors - Webb Wheel 54775p-65 (available from napa)

pads - NAPA UP7655m (73mm)

all of the above parts reference in the NAPA system to 2001 International 3800 school bus

Old scout and wolf make very good points. I would not make my purchase decision based solely on weather a manufacturer is still in business or not. When you get accustomed to the features of a Peak chassis and an Alpine coach, I felt any parts hunting was well worth the time given how it feels to live in, handles, and rides. Good luck on your repairs!

Take your old brake components to any reputable truck brake and clutch supply house. They knew exactly what I was dealing with and were able to match mine up in minutes, and all parts were in stock. Do yourself a favor and replace all the calipers with quality remain units.

After you get everything done, be sure to flush your brake fluid every two years.

Andy, Thank you Gunite was the rotor. It seems that all the other Mfrs. are at 15.3 and Gunite was the only rotor at 15" even.

I have a new rotor coming in Monday I hope this one has the tone ring built in

Andy the answer is yes This the only 15" rotor all others are 15.3"
