Pleated Day & Night Shade Repair

So we are on our first trip. We are only about 7 miles from the house, but hey we are using it.

So here is the issue. One of the day/night pleated shades has an issue. The strings down the sides has broken free from their anchor points. Plastic broke. What is the correct way of remounting/anchoring these strings. It seems as though they must have some tension, but then I can’t mount them.

Any tips on how?

Mike

Two ways to repair:
  1. You can find repair kits on Amazon and you can take them down and re-string the shades
  2. Replace with Day/Night Roller Shades

We tried #1 a few times and still had 20-year-old blinds that worked only marginally and then went with #2 replacing all the blinds and couldn't be happier

Like many, you will probably start with #1 and there are many YouTube videos on how to re-string/repair those cellular blinds

On my last coach I replace the strings on several of the shades. It is not that difficult to do. I used this company for parts and support.

I took the approach that Paul suggests many years go. Could not be happier. I restrung a number of my blinds, and found them to be poorly manufactured. The holes did not line up properly, resulting in wear on the strings and plastic spacers/guides. Replacing the strings and guides fixed the problem for a while, only to return again. But it is easy and cheap to find repair kits, and usually with instructions including how to tension them. Removing and reinstalling the blinds is the hardest part.

I went with the MCD day/night roller shades and never looked back. The day shade provides filtered light, but you can still clearly see the outside world. Night shade is blackout with complete privacy. They are not cheap, but in my opinion well worth the upgrade.

I did as Jim did. Could not be happier. They are a little pricey but worth it.

I fiddled with it, and got it working

I was able to re-anchor the string on both sides.

I manually lifted the right side to re-anchor the left side. And manually lifted the left side to re-anchor the right side

The MCD shades may be nice, but not after the first night out. 🤪
