Refrigerator Upgrade

I have 2002 FDDS alpine and want to upgrade to a residential refrigerator but I have the return air under the original refrigerator my current rv fridge is approximately 60x37
A 60” tall counter depth refrigerator would work but I haven’t been successful in finding one the size I need
Any help locating that size would surely be appreciated

The Samsung or GE 18CF will fit. It needs to go all the way to the ceiling and the floor for the current Refer needs to come out and a platform built to keep the refer about 1/4" above the furnace (Zero Clearance). There is a little trimming of the existing cabinet facia but mostly you can remove the pieces you need by unscrewing the faceplate and removing the pieces.

This is the model we used and some pics of the modification, installation

Try HomeDepot.com. It had the best search tool when I did this a couple of years ago. You can search their fridges using dimensions.

Here are a few from my notes. Go to HomeDepot.com to check dimensions, etc.

These are about 60 inches high. I put in the Whirlpool. It is smaller than the 18 cf Paul put in above, but I didn't have to lower the floor over the furnace. I had to piece in wood at the top and two sides to fill it in though.

1. Fridgidaire FFHT1514TS
2. GE GTE15CTHWW
3. Hotpoint (which is a GE) HPE5BTHWW
4. Whirlpool WRT1314FFDW which is what I got
5. Amana ART104TFDW, but no energy star version

One note to keep in mind is make sure the fridge you choose is good with zero clearance. I moved into a house that had a zero clearance fridge and the fridge went out and the extended warranty company said that the fridge was not supposed to zero clearance and not covered

Paul,

did you ever solve your issue with the ceiling light fixture in front of it?

No, I did not lower the heater, just the floor as shown in the pics but.............. there is only about 1/4" clearance to make it fit

It was a 3 part process:
1. we built a base with 4x4 blocks just higher than the heater and secured these to the floor/sides
2. we used pieces of 90* steel angle with holes in it (Home Depot) and secured it to the blocks
3. we drilled into the refrigerator from the bottom into the skids and through the metal in #2 and then we used wedges at the top to keep it nice and tight.

Still a work in Progress and still trying to figure the final configuration to make it work as there are no RV mini-splits and a residential unit needs to be adapted.
