have great merit. After I build it I will then weight it. If it turns out to more than 5 lbs I will be back to the knowledge pool. By the way talk about ceiling struts I have tried to fine them with no success that’s why I was thinking him drilling through the roof.

Jeflen
I'm sure we'd like to see pictures of your custom ceiling creation.
I believe there is a roof truss at each carpet seam on the ceiling.
A good stud finder may confirm that...
I probably wouldn't thru bolt to the roof, as that ceiling is at least 5" thick, maybe more. Good Luck.

I have pretty much weighed all components and I was Way off 10 to 13 pounds is a better estimate. So might have to drill. The 1/8 wood that the current fabric glued onto may not be sufficient

I wouldn’t recommend drilling through the roof for what you are proposing to do.

How many anchor points will you have? I’d suggest at least 9 and as many as 12. Use 3 or 4, evenly spaced, along the long dimension, 85”, on both edges and another run down the center. I’d also recommend using a toggle bolt, the 10/24 size may be sufficient, as opposed to an expanding plastic anchor. The trick will be that you’ll need to remove some styrofoam behind the hole to allow the anchor to expand. Something like 90* needle nose pliers might do the trick.

If you’d like some reassurance on this advice, take a piece of 1/8” plywood, drill the appropriate size hole for a 10/24, or other size toggle bolt, install the anchor and then try to pull it through the plywood.

Sir
I did exactly as you suggested and did a test in in my shop. The toggle worked fine. You have found a solution for me and you don’t know how great full I am for you taking the time to help me. Thank you so much
