Searching this forum

Maybe I am doing something wrong. Every time I try to search something I get unrelated results. I search for water pump and get lots of Generator stuff. Am I doing this incorrectly?? Just looking for a 8.3ltr water pump part number and installation information. I have tried searching forums and posts.

First when you search you need to be logged in and use the small search bar on the top right header marked powered by google. If you start with F104 and then what you are looking for, it will look in the Alpine forum first. There are water pumps in generators as well. It can be confusing at first. There are You Tube videos that are helpful as well. If you have your original Cummins operator manual it shows the removal and replacement steps as well. With your Cummins engine serial number you can go on line with Cummins and see parts details etc. The pump will also have a number stamped on it. I like to verify with my local Cummins dealer for any updated superseded number. In my case there have been 5 updated versions since mine was built.

I’ll send you some pictures via email on what I did. Good Luck!

Here's a guide in the Forum 101 section on how to search. Using the advanced search you can narrow your search down to a specific forum or multiple forums using the Ctrl-Click on each forum you want to search.

Great advice on using f104, eg. "f104 engine water pump" to limit your search responses....especially for your Cummins parts, the best way is to consult Cummins on line or your local Cummins dealer, using your engine's specific serial number [found on timing gear cover]….this helps ensures you get the exact part for your exact engine...

Either method will limit searches to the Alpine forum. Both will also yield equal amounts of useless and irrelevant information. The built in “advanced” search allows filters such as a time frame or number of responses, etc. I prefer using the advanced search over the F104 method, although neither are anything to write home about.

In your case, a YouTube search for “How to replace the water pump in a Cummins (ISC/ISL/IS?) engine” might yield more satisfactory results than either of the other two options.

just did it on ISL…..remove serpentine belt, remove three bolts, remove/replace pump, install three bolts, install belt.....drink a beer, admire work...…
PS--did I mention you have to drain all/most of the coolant out of the engine--ugh!!!
