Scenario as indicated by the VmsPC system:
Manifold pressure before manifold cracked = 23 PSI.
Manifold pressure after manifold cracked = 19 PSI.
As the manifold cracked about 3/4 around its circumference and the Turbo was fully supported, I tried a fix from the “Old days”.
I cleaned the manifold around the crack and applied a super high heat manifold crack repair compound costing less than $12.00 (Auto Zone). After the material “cured”, I tightly wrapped the repaired area with high temperature wire and then followed with tightly wrapped “Inferno Wrap”.
Result:
All noise was gone (which can be determined by closing the Pac Brake at high idle).
Manifold pressure returned to 23 PSI under full load.
Summary:
I didn’t have to worry about breaking a stud off in the head and got an almost free ride on the “Fix”. It worked for me.
