Slow Fuel Fill

I know that this has been discussed before and my coach has had a few more than normal build issues, but thought it may be of interest to someone.

Filling my coach has gotten harder to top off over the last year, to where it was an issue.

I found that the vent hose was:

1) Tie wrapped too tight in many places, flatting hose.
2) Installed under the fill tube, allowing it to fill with fuel and slow venting.
3) Routed on the outside of the fill tube at the filler neck, causing the vent tube to crimp.
4) Heater hose instead of fuel resistant hose, was cracking.

I have not any problems with filling the fuel tank, on my 2001, 38ft but on the last fill I had fuel leaking from the vent line. I just replaced the vent line as well as the main fuel fill line hoses. I found both hose to be cracked and in need of replacement.

Here is photo of kink in vent and cracks in hose (heater type.)

Tank fills much better now that I have replaced the hose.

Well having to go thru the problem of slow fill and defective fuel gauge I can tell you what i learned. 1. the vent hose must slope upward with no downward loop. This loop creates a trap effect like a J trap on a sink. Fuel trapped in the vent hose also
creates a fill and foaming problem. 2. Lot of nice people out there, especially Monaco and Transferflow.

Maybe a better vent tube posture would be an upward U, i.e. fastening the center of the vent tube to the basement ceiling so tube slopes down toward fill and toward tank. Following the very flat slope of the fill tube makes for difficult draining for a small diameter tube, so any irregularity might cause a hiccup of fuel left in the vent and filling troubles.

Still need to avoid WRV'ing the zip ties till the tubing is garotted.

Mike,

Good idea again. I tried to keep a downward slope back to the tank with mine and like your idea better. I will look into doing that to mine.
