Sofa securing

My Alpine has a sofa on the passenger side that is not on a slide out. When I bought the coach, the sofa was secured by only two lag bolts through the frame, though there are four holes. The bolts were of different size and appeared not to be factory.

Can someone tell me the size of the factory bolts used to secure that sofa? I'm a bit paranoid of using too long a bolt and piercing something under the floor.

Thanks in advance.

I don’t believe that was a factory option.

I’d take a chance and slowly drill a small (1/8”) pilot hole through the floor. Get a rough idea of where the drill bit may come through and choose a spot that looks to be free of electrical or plumbing for the first hole. You can measure the depth with the drill bit. If it’s a clean shot, use a bolt with a nyloc nut.

Thanks for the reply.

If you mean the passenger side sofa, it actually was an option, I'm just not sure as to how it was originally secured. I can see no through holes from the underside so I doubt it was secured by threaded fasteners. It does not have seat belts, as does the sofa on the slide-out, so securing it to the floor is not critical for safety while traveling as it is not meant to be used as a seat while in motion.

You are correct. The road side sofa is secured with lag bolts. One is loose on ours, but we’re getting a new, different sofa soon so it will probably be secured with bolts in fresh locations. Our mid-door didn’t offer the curb side sofa option.

I’d at least use 1-1 1/4” lags for your sofa. If it is the EZ bed it could be unstable if someone sat on the edge when in “bed mode”.

Now you’ve got me thinking of a way to secure our recliner.
