Step fuse - found it!

I'm on a trip and my step quit working. Durn! Troubleshooting found no power to the 4-wire plug that the step plugs in to. Must be a fuse, I thought. So I looked and looked for the fuse. I looked in the bins in the back. I looked under the coach in the front below the driver's footwear. No joy! So I pulled the passenger side kick panel and opened the fuse boxes.

Not there either. Durn!

So I read the manual. Not there!

Then I asked Mr. GOOGLE. I found a link that said the fuse was in the harness for the step. The info said that the author had to unwrap 10' of electrical tape to find the he fuse. Durn!

I'm in Texas at a small park with cockleburrs all over. Durn! I have to go under the coach. Anybody want to go with me?

JOY, I found it! I didn't even have to unwrap a mile of tape.

Durn! The fuse is good but the ends are corroded. I cleaned things up and installed the fuse. Durn! It works! I guess 20 years under the coach for a fuse arrangement that is NOT waterproof isn't too bad. One day I'm going to find those Western RV Electricians and give them a lesson or two.

Gosh--you should have emailed me--I found [stumbled] it years ago when I replaced the step control box [smile]. Until then, I had no idea--hiding the fuse in the wire loom must have been a Kiwi step thing. Assume your coach is non-Vansco--not sure how steps are powered and fused in a Vansco coach. Pretty sure resetting the Vansco does reset the step--I think.

It's amazing how many fuses like that I've found in my Vansco equipped coach.
A lot of the coaches accessories came with inline fuses that WRV didn't necessarily remove.

I’ll bet the Western TV electricians still laugh when they read these posts. I am with you on the lessons.

Coach is non-Vansco.

I laughed when I read your post because contacting you for assistance was one of my first thoughts

This is my 2nd “fix” on my current trip. The first was replacing the valve on the toilet (it was leaking). I was at South Padre Island when I noticed the drip. Imagine my delight in finding a new valve at a RV shop just 5 miles away.

I wish I had kept a log of everything that has needed love while on the road. The worst by far was the anti-siphon/check valve for the black tank flush line that blocked the line and dumped the water inside the coach.

About my fuse search - that was good for me. I now know where most of the fuses are. I’ve been thinking about a spare fuse kit. It’s complicated.

Yup--Vansco folks have their own issues...us non-Vansco owners have to stay together too....safe travels....
PS--agree--you should have called--but the question is: would I have remembered the fuse--oh bother?

You might seriously think about filling that fuse holder with electrical grease. I will slow down any future corrosion. Good luck.
