TV Replacement

Figured I would wait for everyone else to do it first, so,

What is a good size tv to replace bedroom and living room tv?

We are canning Directv as the trees around our house have gotten too big. I figure I can stream through my phone as I have unlimited voice, text and data. I know they throttle down at times. We are already using Roku at home with Netflix and Britbox. We are going to try not having anything else but may add Sling Blue with Hollywood add on for $35/ month.

I got an adapter to go from HDMI to the 3 plugs on front of TV’s but nothing happens.

What size and brand did you get and was mounting easy?
Is getting a Roku TV worth it or just use the Roku we have at home?

BTW, I tried pulling out the bedroom TV and couldn’t budge it. May have to use dynamite!

A “good size” is one that fits in the existing space. This avoids extensive/expensive cabinet remodeling. We put a Samsung up front. It may be a 30”.

We removed the rear/bedroom tube TV and had cabinet doors made to cover the opening. No TV in the bedroom. Some folks have mounted a TV in that space that hinges out to allow access to the storage space behind.

There are some fairly recent posts in the “Easy Mods” thread with specifics and photos.

I did some modification and don't have the model Samsung but this worked great!

I switched 2 of my 4 tv's with Samsung QLED's. I have a 49 in the family room and a 43 outside. They are a bit more than the intro TV's but worth it to me. Picture is fantastic. I like my sports so a quality tv is important to me. I would get the largest that would fit in the space.

I would also get a wall mount that locks in place for going down the road but swivels when watching.

I went the opposite route --cheap walmart Vizio tvs.
Bedroom is 23 and front tv is 32.
Both on arms to access the space behind.
I finished out the space behind the front tv so it is usable storage space.
Using my phone as a hot spot, I can stream netflix, prime, etc. No problem.

Remove the wood frame infront of the bedroom tv---then you can see how it is secured. If I recall, there were 1 x 2 holding it in place.

Note that nowadays you have to PAY to have goodwill recycle them.

Is the bedroom TV secured by anything and if so, how do you access it?

I pulled the faceplate off and could not budge the TV. It feels like something is holding it down.

Also,

We bought a Visio 24" Smart TV to go in there.
Once I find a mounting bracket that will fit it, can I attach to interior cabinet wall or is there enough space to mount to ceiling?

As I recall the original bedroom tube tv has a piece of plywood screwed to the bottom of it. Access from the underside by removing the storage drawers.
There's a bunch of screws down there!
We built a plywood bracket at a slight downward angle and attached it to the backside of the finished wood surround trim. We mounted a older 22" LED Vizio...it barely clears the closet door. I think a 24" will require a small swing mount so it won't hit the right side wardrobe closet door.
There is a ton of wasted space back there, a little creativity will give plenty of options. Next tv will see a swing mount and a small safe mounted behind it...

If you don’t have the washer/dryer option, there is also some dead space behind the 3 drawers in the lower cabinet. If so equipped.

Yes there is. We're considering turning that into a large pantry area...

I measured diagonally, parallel; to the cabinet face, from the exterior wall to a space on the wood panel on the hall side. A 32" LED is thin, light and fits.

HDMI is digital, while those 3 RCAs are probably analog, needing a D/A conversion device. Red/White- audio; yellow- composite analog video.

The new TV' are so light, it doesn't take much structure for solid fitment, but I had no inteqrest in attaching to the ceiling, due to possible leaks and concerns about a solid grip thru the insulating material.


These RVs move about, so I ensured even this under 30# TV was well affixed to a panel just inside the opening. I considered a hinge mount, but thought that avenue was more involved and probably less solid.

Please see the simple approach I took replacing The TV’s in our coach. Nothing elegant but very simple and functional. Used articulating mounts for both of the Samsung Smart TV’s (40” w/sound bar) in the front and 23” in the bedroom). Got rid of the original Panasonic surround sound speakers in the front and installed a simple matching Bluetooth Samsung subwoofer). Works great for music listening and TV watching. Good luck...!

I replaced my TV with 32" from Sam's Club $181.99
I don't use the TV that much and I didn't want it to be a major upgrade.
No cabinet alternation. I keep the steel structure and added a board as in the photo (lower left). It all works great for $182

When we installed a w/d I removed the 3 drawers and installed them on one side of the closet as a linen closet!

I am looking at upgrading the front tv, but I want to remove the steel structure if it’s not a needed for structural integrity of the motorhome. Everyone has hit their head on that steel. I took a big chunk out of my head this weekend.
