Un-comanded gen start

Twice now in the last six months or so my generator has started on its own.
And yes the AGS is off.
Anyone else??? Thoughts....
Shuts off like it should when you go out and turn back off.
Luckily it's in the backyard and outside so no harm no foul, just burning diesel for no reason.

What generator do you have?


I have read that this can happen on an Onan.

There is a wiring harness connector on passenger side of mine that can get moisture in it causing the generator to start on it's own. The cure it so pull the connector apart, dry it out, use some electric clean and a little dielectric grease and put back together.

Hasn't happened to me yet but would hate to run out 90 gallons of fuel if it did start.

I'm also thinking moisture is the issue.
First time we had a bunch of lighting while I was at work and come home to it sitting there running. We have had heavy rain the last few days this time...
It's a Onan 7500qd
Again this time I'm at work again and my wife call to say it was running again and asked how I wanted her to turn it off.
I will run the gen slide out when I get home and give it a look.

Whaaat? It never rains here. FWIW we recorded over 30" of rain in January here at Lake Cushman.
Sounds like a disconnect switch for the gen may be in order for the short term. I've thought about it myself.

I had it happen once, ran about 8 hours before I found it running. Did as jacjawjames mentioned disconnected same connector added dielectric. Has not happened again and that was 5 years ago. Our coach does not have AGS.
Talked to a Monaco owner shortly after it happened to mine and he had same thing happen in storage lot. Ran for 4 days till ran out of fuel. He also did not have AGS.

1. Do you also have a Magnum Energy panel? It also has an AGS function. My coach had a Xantrex AGS AND the Magnum panel when I bought it. It could have a leftover setting. They don't talk to each other.

2. Are you aware that High and low outside temps can also trigger a gen start?
Some will AGS if the fridge gets warm.

I have a onan equinox. To the best of my knowledge it is only voltage based and only from the control panel.

I would like more info on which plug has been a issue in the past, I have a feeling this is where my problem is going to be.
I did a search the first time it happen but didn't find much.
I will try a wider search when I get home and see what I can find.

Thank goodness our good friends and neighbors spend the winters at their Arizona home. I park our coach in their Rv garage all winter and caretake their house in exchange.
We are heading to Salt Creek Wednesday for a few, supposed to have some much needed dry days to enjoy. Heading to the coach now to prep, and have a look at that Onan connector myself.
