Well.................I bit the bullet and pulled the plug on my Lithium upgrade.
I decided to go with Lion Safari UT 1340 batteries (New upgraded version) that use a lighter weight type of cell. I plan to build a battery bay in the area at the foot of the bed which will need to be modified of course but feel that this will be a much better environment for the Lithium batteries.
The added benefit is that this area is very close to my Inverter placement and directly above the existing battery compartment.
I've also added the new Vistron Orion 12/30 DC-DC converter that is just being released and has Bluetooth capabilities................I'll be looking back through this thread and really appreciate your doing such a good job of documenting your progress.

I am installing 630...batteries now rated at 105 with 150A continuous.
I actually have room for 7 (7.87 actually) in that space but 6 should meet my needs and allows for a little room between the batteries.
Trying to get the install, including Magnum 3012 and AMSolar Phase Selector upgrade done before the Quartzsite rally.

630 Ah will be plenty especially with your large solar set up. These recharge really quickly.
Some manufacturers have limits as to how manny batteries you can put in series & parallel because of the BMS you might want to check into that.
Also read my trouble with the trombetta charge bridge. Once closed the alternator will not charge and the chassis literally runs of the house batteries until you get down to the alternator supplied voltage. My recommendation is to disable the Vansco control wire from the trombetta relay. I simply cut that wire and put a in-line fuse holder in but left the fuse out. It takes just a second to push the fuse in and have the relay back functional if needed.
Best of luck and no magic smoke during the install.
Joerg

Hi Joerg,
Our 2001 36FDDS is pre-Vansco, do you think this is something we need to be concerned about in our case.......I was hoping I could offset alternator issues (we have the upgraded 200A) by fitting the 12/30 DC-DC upstream of the battery isolator.
Seems like I learn more and more every day!

This is the location I am planning on installing the batteries. I'll need to greate a structural shelf above the heater vents but as the batteries only weigh 23lb each I should have no trouble making this work.
The beauty of this location is the proximity to the existing battery compartment/Buss bars, as well as the Inverter and solar controller.

That location looks good. My coach does not have that compartment ... I think only 2 small cubbies.
Oh - pre Vansco ... hmmm you have a battery isolator then. So I think you want to leave the path to the chassis battery the way it is the alternator will do it’s thing. Place your Dc-DC converter between isolator and lithium battery. Question can you set the output voltage on the converter to charge your lithium’s? So like around 14.5V ? ... I only glanced at the manual yesterday but did not read it. In essence you want to take the alternator voltage and current and convert / limit it to the house battery, separate from the chassis battery.

Yes, that is what I was advised and planning to do. The voltage is adjustable and can be monitored from your phone....just like with the Victron MPPT solar controller and the BMS712V.....now I just need to figure out how to get everything visible in one location vs separate apps.....I think their GX monitor system will do this and allow me to view in total via a web interface through the onboard Routher/network connection.
BTW have you decided if you're coming to Quartzsite??

Lifepo4 400ah 12V Lithium ion Battery $1499.00
This battery showed up on Amazon.
Looks like a new vendor and battery.
Looks like it would work for an RV but no history of how well they work.
They have both a 12v and 24v version.
Also have 100ah, 200ah, 300ah version. Free shipping

Wow that is a very good price. 400Ah for $1,500 free shipping.
One would need to figure what what type of cell is inside. Prismatic ? And what brand then ? There are not that many manufactures (at leased well known).
Now if this has a bunch of cylindrical cells in it I would not buy it but if it has an EV (has Aluminium casing) or Sinopoly or CALB cell that would be an outstanding deal.

Paul,
Cathrin and I arrived in Florida today. We left the house 4 days ago. I put the check and application in an envelope 4 weeks ago and after a friends report about her Quartzsite experience Cathrin talked me into staying in Florida and possibly not going. Well I have the envelope in the coach and it is not chiseled in stone. Still thinking about it.

So I think this would be the perfect way for you to get to meet other Alpine owners (THe absolute best time all year). The resources available here (knowledge wise) would take months and months on iRV2.
I would love to have you help me with the Solar/Lithium battery primer and between us we'll both have all the amenities of actually being plugged in.
The food and entertainment this year WILL be better than prior years.....we took that on as a mission and have lined up some great stuff.
Yes we're in the desert but we will have a structural tent (think of a nice tent you might see at a golf tournament or a hotel for a wedding reception with large round tables, a stage and even AV equipment.....just like the real world
With 100GA of freshwater and all your lithium you're gonna feel right at home..... I hope we all get a chance to meet you in Q.
Cheers,

I was going to ask if you were coming too.
I hope you come, I'd like to see your setup too. We just started living in our coach. Leading up to this, we thought we could install solar 'down the road' sometime. It quickly became apparent we need solar and/or more batteries. I write code and work from the coach. That generator runs off and on all day while I am working. I can almost tolerate it, but I would hate to be parked around anyone else.
BTW, at Quartzite, will you put us generator addicts way off in a downwind corner?

One of the things that is appreciated by all at the rally is the use of a "Gen-Turi"....this can be found on Amazon and is very much appreciated by your neighbors!!
