Visiting New York City & Washington DC

Has anyone found a campground that gives reasonable access to a train to NYC and driving or train into DC? We plan to be there this summer, and I'd love some advice! Thanks!

There are a number of campgrounds between Washington and NYC. If you want to be closer to DC most people recommend Cherry Hill Park. This is close to the DC metro and just off I-95 if you want to drive to NYC.

If you are passing through WV on the way let us know.

Gail & John,

Algoma has good advice but I'd add to NOT drive into NYC unless you're just parking where you can access the subway system. My wife & I have been in both places several times and used trains &/or subways. The traffic is absolutely horrible and should be avoided at all cost. Just pick up system maps & schedules. You'll find it relatively easy to get acquainted with using the public transportation systems. Have fun!

For Washington, we stayed a week at Cherry Hill (Maryland) in Sept 2012. You can take a city bus from the park to the metro.

For NYC, we stayed at Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY. We drove to the train in Peekskill, (on the Hudson River) to get into town one day. Black Bear also sells a bus tour of the city.

There is an RV park in New Jersey, called Liberty Harbor that people like for closeness (it's right across the river). We wanted to be further away from the city for other reasons.

Another vote for Cherry Hill for visiting DC. The bus to DC picks you up in the campground. They have an orientation presentation at 4PM, I think. They cover the bus, getting to the train, night time bus tours and such. Wonderful place to stay.
